Ashworth Double Top . .

Event hosts at the 1.55 mile Anglesey venue were the Classic & Sports Car Club and the circuit prompted a unanimous 'thumbs up' from the drivers for whom this was the first visit to North Wales with the 'Equipe GTS' series. Morning qualifying for rounds 2 and 3 of the series saw the top ten within 4 seconds of poleman Stephen Radcliffe. After some difficult times it was good to see the popular Rob Cull back on song with his TVR Grantura in 6th, and a clump of MGB's duking out 1.26s laps from 8th to10th promised close-quarter racing in the afternoon. Race 1 - the front row TVR Grantura of Mark Ashworth turned the tables on the Radcliffe MGB and dominated with a 9 second margin at the flag, while Jerry Stock turned up the wick to press Radcliffe to the death for fastest MGB. David Beresford continued last seasons form with a fine 4th, and as predicted an entertaining squabble developed between Cull, Simon Ashworth and Mike Harris, and less than half a second separated the trio at the line for 5th. Class 2 went to the WSM of Clive Cocks and Class 3 to Trevor Kemp's well travelled Elva Courier. Race 2 - Mark Ashworth took another second off his previous days best lap to take a deserved and relatively untroubled double. Stock took advantage of a rare Radcliffe error in the battle of the B's, while another mid-table scrap kicked off with the TVR Grantura of Colin Elstrop hounded by the Graham Shrigley-Jones, Graham Bates and Tim Patchett MGB's. John Yea and Jerry Knight repeated the previous days antics and after two half hour races, 1.45s separated the sparring MGB's. Driver of the Week-End and newcomer Chris Gordon impressed by taking Class 2 away from the Cocks WSM in another frantic finish at the wheel of his Triumph Spitfire.
